The mission of the Latino Policy Forum is to build the power, influence, and leadership of the Latino community through collective action to transform public policies that ensure the well-being of its community and society as a whole. The Forum works to improve education outcomes for Latino children, address housing issues, advance an agenda on immigration reform and immigrant integration, and engage in strengthening the capacity of the Latino community through leadership development in the Chicago area.
Summary: Under the supervision of the civic engagement manager, the associate policy analyst contributes to the overall organizational agenda with specific attention to advancing the Illinois Latino Agenda, supporting immigration efforts, and reviewing and analyzing related published reports and other data. This position requires a great deal of flexibility, drive, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. It provides a valuable opportunity to be immersed in and have a positive impact on the well-being of the Latino community across the state of Illinois. The associate policy analyst provides comprehensive, research/data-based recommendations to meet needs and challenges as they might arise.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and coordination for the Illinois Latino Agenda: recruit and build membership; set agendas, meetings; maintain/ensure effective relationships with members, partners, others; maintain Agenda institutional history – minutes, notes, etc.
- Provide support and analysis for immigration department-related issues (e.g., immigrant integration policies at local, state, federal levels). Develop and assist with implementation of policy proposals/advocacy strategies to advance the Forum's immigration agenda.
- Contribute to and/or deliver immigration policy workshops/training to organizational allies, partners, interested community members.
- Monitor new/emerging research/other information about Latinos – e.g. http://www.pewhispanic.org
- Monitor local, state and federal immigration legislation, policies, advocacy efforts.
- Research/design/create/coordinate analyses, reports, fact sheets, blog/website entries/newsletters, etc. as requested.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- B.A. in policy or related field required; Advanced degree preferred. Bi-lingual Spanish/English required. Three – five years’ experience in nonprofits, work in the Latino community, and/or prior experience in related issues. Superior communications (writing/speaking/presentation) and interpersonal skills required. Aptitude for taking initiative and problem solving. Proficient in MS Office – Word, PowerPoint, Excel; internet.
