Policy Associate - Housing Program Area (Part-time)

The Latino Policy Forum is a nonprofit policy and advocacy organization dedicated to increasing the power, influence, and leadership of the Latino community through collective action to transform public policies and ensure the well-being of Latinos and society as a whole throughout the Chicago metropolitan region. In the area of housing, the goals of the forum are for all Latinos to have access to safe, quality, affordable housing.
Summary: Under the direction of the housing manager, the policy associate is responsible for performing housing trainings, fair housing information sessions, referrals and collaborating with the housing team to improve the quality of life and access to housing services for Latinos in the community.
The Policy Associate is charged with executing education outreach efforts concerning housing issues by planning, developing and delivering the Forum’s TECHO (Training and Education Creates Housing Opportunities) bilingual (Spanish/English) training modules and workshops on housing related topics. Those served will include: individuals, Latino-serving agencies, leaders and constituents, developers and housing providers. The workshops and training sessions will increase community awareness, provide referral services and viable strategies for those who are experiencing housing distress and challenges. The Policy Associate will also be responsible for the Housing department’s outreach strategies, which include providing presentations at the Mexican Consulate and training groups of bilingual/bicultural college students to become Fair Housing Education Promoters/Promotores de Vivienda Justa.
Major Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement housing trainings for non-profit partners and other housing-oriented organizations;
- Recruit and train college students for the Forum’s Promotores de Vivienda Justa program;
- Maintain collection, organization, and reporting of housing outreach data as necessary;
- Receive, assess, and conduct appropriate follow-up with calls/referrals regarding perceived instances of housing discrimination and other housing related issues such as foreclosures, rental challenges, and affordable housing;
- Participate in relevant housing expos, community events, and fairs to inform the general public about their housing rights and responsibilities while expanding the Forum’s reach within the community;
- Collaborate with members of the housing team to conduct analysis and reports;
- Assist housing manager in functions related to the Housing Acuerdo;
- Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Fluent in Spanish;
- Strong interpersonal and effective oral and written communication skills;
- Proficient public speaker;
- Demonstrated computer skills, including PowerPoint and excel;
- Excellent time management, organizational, and administrative skills;
- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and target-driven.
