Education Summer Updates
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that the state rates schools according to a variety of indicators. Yet, the Education Team’s latest research, based on interactions with various parent groups from Chicago Public Schools, found that Latino and Immigrant parents judge school quality and make decisions for their children based on different factors such as bilingual programming.

The Education Team is also working diligently to build the Early Childhood Education (ECE) workforce and is currently collaborating with the Ounce of Prevention Fund to convene stakeholders and generate specific recommendations to increase ECE workforce with linguistic and cultural competence.

Congratulations to Natalie Vesga, the Forum’s Senior Associate Education Programs, who was selected for the Erikson Institute’s Barbara Bowman 2017 Leadership Fellows Program.
The Education Team welcomes two new members: Jose Marco-Paredes, Trainer and Communication Specialist, and Erika Mendez, Early Education Policy Analyst.
