Housing Spring Updates

In January, the Forum welcomed the Vice-Chairman of the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) Board of Commissioners Craig Chico, to meet with the Housing Acuerdo, a coalition of 31 Latino-led and Latino-serving organizations. They discussed Latino participation in CHA programs and the impact of the changing federal landscape on funding for local CHA affordable housing developments.  For more information on the Housing Acuerdo, contact Gypsy Gavia.

April is Fair Housing Month and 2017 marks the 49th anniversary of the 1968 historic federal Fair Housing Act, which sought to increase access to housing and build more inclusive communities across the United States. The occasion offers opportunity to reflect on our nation’s progress—or lack thereof—in tackling housing discrimination and connect individuals with the fair housing resources they need.

In recognition of Fair Housing Month, the Forum is joining a number of organizations across the nation to raise awareness of rights under the fair housing laws and to help the public recognize discriminatory practices. If you know someone who has been affected by housing discrimination please contact us at 312-376-1766 x235.
