2011 Fundraising Appeal

The Latino Policy Forum has had a busy and productive year. Mil gracias for your partnership in leveraging the power, influence, and leadership of the Latino community to advance our shared future. Some of our 2011 accomplishments include:
  • Informing more than 300 community members of the implications of Latino community growth at our “Latinos and the Changing Face of America: Policy Perspectives” breakfast in October, establishing the Forum as the go-to organization for articulating the Latino vision and providing information on social policy issues that impact the community.
  • Championing issues relevant to Latino children and families by testifying at 17 state and local hearings focused on budget matters, redistricting, and government administration.
  • Initiating a new series of policy briefs, “Statistics on Latinos” (or “SOL”), combining data with insightful analysis, to inform elected officials, journalists and the general public about issues of importance to the Latino community.
  • Convening more than 200 community leaders, advocates, nonprofit leaders and government officials at our first-ever “End of Session” Policy Summit, where a panel, headlined by Latino Statesman Miguel del Valle, discussed the state of education, immigration, housing and Latino representation in Springfield.
But there is still much work to be done: For too many Latinos, investment, opportunity and equity have not kept pace with our community’s growth. While 2011 was a banner year for the Forum, it was a year of setbacks for much of the Latino community, as the economy continues to spiral downward and Latinos continue to bear the weight of increasing rates of poverty, foreclosure, unemployment – and finger-pointing from folks looking for a scapegoat for tough times. The work of the Latino Policy Forum has never been more critical.

The Forum must grow to keep pace with the demand for our work. We look forward to broadening our education agenda, currently focused almost exclusively on preschool, to include both birth-to-three and K-to-12 policy. We hope you will join us as we expand our work to make a better life for Latinos and for all Illinoisans. Please click below to make a donation. Your support will give us a real boost for the important work we do on behalf of all those living in our community.

¡Adelante!
