Part-Time Accountant
POSITION TITLE: Accountant
DEPARTMENT: Management and General
REPORTS TO: Associate Director of Institutional Advancement / Executive Director
PAY RATE: $30-$35 per hour, approximately 25 hours per week
START DATE: June 3, 2019
The Latino Policy Forum is a policy and advocacy nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the power, influence, and leadership of the Latino community and ensure the well-being of Latinos and society as a whole throughout the Chicago metropolitan region. The Forum's goals include focusing efforts on improving education, housing, and immigration challenges that face the Chicago area Latino community.
Summary: The Forum seeks a part-time Accountant to complete high end day-to-day operational tasks associated with sound fiscal management. The position requires the ability to pay strict attention to details, to manage multiple priorities, and complete all assignments in a timely fashion.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Management & General Ledger
- Provides accounting oversight and guidance
- Prepares all journal entries
- Develops cost allocation framework
- Monitor cash balances
- Executes monthly close process
- Maintains and ensures adherence to fiscal policies and procedures
- Maintains Chart of Accounts
- Ensures data quality in the General Ledger
- Ensures adherence to GAAP
- Identifies, designs and implements internal controls structures
- Prepare withholding, Social Security, and other tax reports; implement strategies, polices, procedures
- Compile reports to show statistics, such as cash receipts and expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, profit and loss, and other items pertinent to operation of business
- Review financial budget, policies and procedures with staff
Financial Planning & Reporting
- Work with Executive Director and Associate Director to develop annual operating budget
- Prepare financial reports
- Prepare cash flow projections
Payroll
- Receives and reviews payroll package
- Records payroll entries in accounting system
- Reconciles payroll
Cash Receipts and AR
- Verifies deposits
- Enters Accounts Receivable into accounting system
Grants Management
- Prepare budgets for proposals or grant renewals
- Prepares vouchers for all cost-reimbursement government/state/city grants
- Prepares financial reports for funders
Board
- Prepare budgets, reports, and narratives for board meetings
- Present financial standings to the Board bi-monthly
- Meet with Board Treasurer bi-monthly for financial overview
Audit
- Manages the annual audit process
- Prepares audit schedule
Qualifications:
Degree in accounting/finance required; CPA and/or MBA a plus; 3-5 year verifiable experience working in non-profits; detail-oriented; strong technical expertise; 1-3 year’s experience with accounting software programs; working knowledge of EZ Labor; well-grounded in understanding of budget functions/systems; highly motivated to take initiative to identify opportunities/challenges; ability to complete assignments in timely fashion.
