Social Media Coordinator
POSITION TITLE: Social Media Coordinator (Part-time (20 hours), Non-exempt)
REPORTS TO: Director of Communications
STARTING SALARY: $45,000 ($22 per hour)

The mission of the Latino Policy Forum is to build the power, influence, and leadership of the Latino community through collective action to transform public policies that ensure the well-being of its community and society as a whole. Through advocacy and analysis, the Forum builds a foundation for equity, justice, and economic prosperity for the Latino community. By catalyzing policy change, the Forum works to improve education outcomes, advocate for affordable housing, promote just immigration policies and strengthen community leadership.
The Latino Policy Forum seeks a part-time social media coordinator who will manage all of the Forum’s social media accounts, keeping the Forum’s audience and staff constantly informed of all relevant news, events, and campaigns with creative engagement strategies and a discerning eye for relevance. This is a 2.5-person department and there is no administrative support, so the Social Media Coordinator will be directly responsible for all activities related to social media. The Social Media Coordinator is in charge of developing a communications plan for the agency and carrying out its details. This position is responsible for coordinating organization-wide design, message, and content generation for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, as well as other updates to the Forum’s public-facing mediums, including its website and MailChimp newsletters. This position will own some administrative responsibilities, such as tracking social media and website analytics, maintaining databases, and creating production schedules. This is a great opportunity for a candidate with strong communications and media placement experience; an ability to move from complexity to simplicity; and a desire to advance the Forum’s mission via social media.
Duties and Responsibilities
External Social Media (50%)
- Support the agency’s mission; develop, implement, and manage broad-based efforts to disseminate the agency’s work to broader audiences; promote Latino inclusion on all public policy debates.
- Monitor news outlets for the most relevant stories to post to social media to keep the Forum’s audience informed, exercising astute editorial judgment and discretion, and always scrutinizing for misinformation, disinformation, and/or bias.
- Produce multimedia and optimize for all social media channels in accordance with organizational message and in collaboration with Communications Director and department.
- Think creatively to create successful multimedia and enhance the agency’s image; determine appropriate medium for disseminating agency’s message.
- Respond to social media comments and inquiries promptly and tactfully.
- Keep social media pages safe and focused spaces for information and discourse; delete and/or report abusive comments.
- Supporting the creation, implementation, and maintenance of agency presence on website.
Internal Organizational Support (15%)
- Keep Forum staff informed internally with regular news updates during regularly scheduled check-ins.
- Assist staff with organization messages, PowerPoint presentations, other publications, events.
- Assist in producing bimonthly communications board report.
General / Administrative (35%)
- Implement and manage annual event PR on social media.
- Create and coordinate production schedules for social media; maintain ongoing relationships with graphic designers and photographers.
- Ensure that communications are accurate, clear, and complete; correct in terms of spelling, grammar, punctuation, editorial style, and consistent tone/voice.
- Assist with maintaining communications databases.
- Track social media and website analytics.
Requirements
- BA or equivalent experience
- 2 – 5 years’ experience in communications
- Documentable success with media placement.
- Advanced computer/Internet skills; experienced, effective, and comfortable working directly with all forms of social media.
Competencies
- Excellent communication skills; outstanding knowledge of/facility with English grammar, syntax, spelling
- Exercises sound judgment day-in and day-out; able to deal with significant pressure to maintain decorum & professionalism.
- Is able to juggle many tasks at the same time while meeting goals/deadlines.
- Strong commitment to and alignment with Latino Policy Forum mission to improve Latino equity and visibility.
- Ability to grasp and effectively communicate complex, detailed information in a clear, concise manner for a variety of audiences.
- Exhibit tact and discretion at all times.
- Bi-lingual – Spanish/English a plus
- Nonprofit and/or work in the Latino community a plus
Physical Requirements
Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations. Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
Work Environment
Work is regularly performed in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
Compensation and Benefits
