John Arenas

Housing Policy Associate

As the Housing Policy Associate, John is responsible for housing rights education, supporting the policy analysis of the Housing and Immigration teams, and developing relationships with Acuerdo members. In housing rights education, John teaches the Forum’s TECHO (Training and Education Create Housing Opportunities) curriculum to Latino-led and Latino serving direct service providers, so they can be better equipped to serve their clients’ needs and provide education themselves. Through housing rights education, John hopes to increase reporting of rights violations and discrimination, in order to ensure fair housing for all.

After working in direct-service with people experiencing homelessness, John now hopes to use his B.A. in Urban Studies from Wheaton College to work for a world where housing is respected as a human right. His training at the Forum has instilled him with the desire to accomplish this by promoting equitable economic development and affordable housing through public policy, for the Latino community and all who face barriers to finding a safe, affordable, and prosperous place to live.
